A Message from the Castro Organist

…I helped establish a non-profit foundation for the purpose of preserving this San Francisco tradition and expanding the instrument into a groundbreaking cultural and educational focal point for the City and for the distinctive Castro District.

My experience as a frequent recitalist on the famed 6-manual Harrah Symphonic Organ in Hurricane, West Virginia, led me to envision a local instrument of comparable magnitude and versatility in a venue where it can be enjoyed by enthusiastic San Francisco audiences on a nightly basis and also be featured as an exceptionally versatile concert instrument.

Acclaimed organ builder Allen Harrah, the recognized pioneer of hybrid organ technology, is giving us a significant advantage by donating countless hours, as well as the classical wind-blown pipe additions, to the design and execution of this instrument. The beautiful 7-manual console controlling 400 digital ranks plus a full theatre pipe organ and two divisions of classical pipes will make us home to the only hybrid organ of these proportions in the world today.

The stunning new console is already under construction. We’re well on our way!
